I follow Airbnb’s enhanced cleaning protocol, which was developed with expert guidance. It costs a bit more, but it's worth it. Enjoy our dream! The historic Buckhorn lodge was built in 1925. Since 2012 we have renovated it as a comfortable rustic family and friends retreat. Our permit allows us 6 guests which is strictly enforced (children under 2 years do not count against the 6 guest limit). The original building has a remodeled bedrooms and bathroom, cedar paneling, a 40' long oceanfront deck, large living room with propane fueled fire place, a fully equipped country kitchen with wood stove and kitchen table, kids loft, hot tub (with ocean view), bikes (Yes! you can ride to town in about 15 minutes - get out of your car!), kayaks, crab traps, private beach, ping pong table, BBQ, fire pit. In 2023 we finished construction of a new wing, adding another 2000 sq ft to our cabin. The addition features a stunning 2nd story master bedroom with ocean views, a luxurious bathroom with heated floors, clawfoot tub with ocean views, steam shower and dual shower heads, bidet, heated towel rack, and double sinks, and a bunk room with 2 twins and a third twin which converts into a king size bed. Downstairs, we added an additional living room/game room with foosball table, smart TV, couch, and library. It is both rustic and luxurious, wonderfully comfortable and the perfect family retreat. Don't spend your vacation driving to the beach. Our private beach is about 10 feet from our 40 foot deck (see photos) which runs the length of the front of the house. You can relax while keeping on eye on the kids. The views are astounding - snow-covered Mt. Baker is visible to the North East, Vancouver is out past Sucia Island to the North West. As noted, you can ride one of our bicycles or walk to to the town of East Sound to shop, eat at one of the wonderful restaurants, attend the weekly farmers market or just stroll. Because we are so close to the beach, it feels as if you were on your own private island. We do offer fiber optic wireless internet, a smart internet-connected tv (connect to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc.), a VCR and DVD player with approximately 250 movies to choose from. Buckhorn Lodge is a one-of-a-kind spot - close to town, right on the water, incredible views on beautiful Orcas Island. Our home offers great value: in addition to its superb beachfront location, the cost of renting a bike on orcas for a single day is $115. Kayaks rent for $25.00 an hour. Those two amenities alone add over a $1,000 in value with just a few days of use! We look forward to providing you with a great island vacation.

Neighborhood

It's quiet, private, and secluded, yet close enough to town that you can ride your bike there in 15 minutes. The ocean is there to play in during the day and the sound of the waves lull you to sleep at night. It's the most peaceful place we know.

We have tried to offer the most complete island experience we can so you can get the most out of your time on Orcas for the best value. So here is what we have included: kayaks, row boat, bicycles, hot tub, hammock, crab traps, pingpong table, inflatable water toys, foosball table, over 100 VHS movies, lawn picnic table, Gas BBQ, and it's all just a 15 minute bike ride to town.

We had a wonderful stay at Buckhorn Lodge. The setting is gorgeous, the sunrises stunning. We kayaked each day, hiked and swam at Moran State Park and enjoyed ice cream and the lovely shops in the village. But most of all, we loved sitting on the porch and in the Adirondack chairs watching the birds, the seals, the fish jumping and the always changing colors of the sky. We hope can return for another visit!

Our family LOVED our stay at this beautiful house. It had every amenity we could imagine and more. Great for kids, amazing views of ocean and islands and mountains. Kitchen stocked with every imaginable item needed and everything in perfect condition. Larry was incredibly helpful and responsive. Comfortable, beautiful, peaceful, private - truly a 10-star experience. Don’t really want to share this incredible find because we definitely want to return every year.

We're return guests - our stay this summer was just as lovely as ever! Buckhorn Lodge remains one of the most beautiful, peaceful settings for an AirBnb that we've ever experienced. Great to just sit on the porch and feel a light breeze while gazing at Mt Baker across the Salish Sea. Larry was also a really responsive, helpful host - all amenities useful and as described. Easy, comfortable stay and perfect location near town.

Find us

Nope - need a car or bike to get around. Orcas is the hilliest island in the San Juans, so biking around the entire island is challenging, but just riding to town and back is easy.
